This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, places and incidents are either the product of the author's imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to any actual persons living or dead, businesses and events or locales are entirely coincidental. This book also has some strong scenes that may cause offence. This isn’t your typical romance.
Chapter One
Bear
I enjoy the easy life. I make that no secret. It’s the main reason I didn’t accept the role as Vice President of the club. That, and I don’t really care for all the politics of the club life. I like to ride my around on my bike, surround myself with beautiful women and if a little club business needs seeing to every now and then, I’ll get involved and support my brothers as much as I can. I’ll give my life for this club, just like some brothers have done before me. These men are my life, as fucking cringe as that sounds, but I don’t want to be their VP. I’m happy enough, sat here enjoying my life and just taking care of the security side of things. Not too much pressure, but enough of a role so as I don’t get too bored around here. I have jobs every now and then, helping out my brother, Breaker and running a security job. The clubs businesses take care of the money side, so I have a pretty easy fucking life and I’m grateful.
I then spot my younger brother, Mason, walking in with his Prospect pals. Laughing and talking shit. He’ll be turning twenty-one soon and patching into the club properly. In the UK club, you can patched into the club as young as eighteen, if you’ve earnt it but here it’s twenty-one. Why should you be able to be patched into a motorcycle club when you aren’t even the legal age to drink? Kind of fucking stupid. However, just because he’ll be patched in and made an official member of the club, doesn’t mean he will take on his role of Vice President yet, he has to earn that right. Even though it’s his birth given right, because I turned it down. Mason will still have to work for it. My older brother, Breaker who’s the club President will decide when Mason is ready for that. I know how much of a good job Mason will do great though, once he’s VP. He’s only a Prospect at the minute, but he’s close to patching in and has already gained a lot of men’s respect around here and that’s vital of a Vice President. I smile to myself as I watch him joke around, he’s made me proud since Prospecting. It’s made him grow up a bit and not act so fucking arrogant all of the time. He used to walk around like the world fucking owed him everything, working hard these past years and taught him a thing or two. Mason does seem perfect for the role of Vice President. His swagger and confident attitude will do him well and he cares for the club, probably more than me if I’m being brutally honest.
Kristen then walks by as I’m watching my brother, snatching my attention as she always does. She’s dressed in completely normal clothes, jeans and a shirt but fuck me she looks sexy as fuck. She could be walking around in her underwear at the rate that I’m reacting right now. That’s how much she affects me. All the time. Her jeans sculpt her curvy thighs and make my mouth water. Her shirt is a little see through, leaving little to my already honey imagination. She can’t know just how much she taunts me, every single day. Since the day I met her, I appreciate how pretty she was but once I got to know her and she settled into the club, I began to want her more and more. It’s hard work keeping away from her all the time and not flirting all day every day. I don’t want to seem like I’m a fucking creep, but I can’t seem to keep away. She turns me down every time I ask her out, making it clear that she’s not interested but sometimes I catch her watching me, especially when I’m entertaining another woman and I can’t help but wonder if she’s either playing hard to get, or is just plain nosey. Either way, until she tells me to fuck off, I’ll keep trying my luck. She’s a gorgeous woman and I’d be a fool to give up on her. I have to fuck a lot of other women though, to at least try and get her out of my system, not that it seems to be doing any good.
Snatch begins to snicker, sitting beside me and I turn to flash him a frown. “The fuck you laughing at?”
“You.” Snatch continues to laugh. He’s currently the club VP, taking over the role until Breaker decides Mason is ready for the job. Personally, I don’t think it will be much longer after he’s patched in because like I’ve said, he seems like a perfect match to be made a club Vice President. “You aren’t getting anywhere with Kristen, might as well cut your losses now bro.”
“Shut the fuck up.” I glare. “It ain’t over yet brother, it’s just getting started.”
“Ok.” Snatch still laugh but I look back over to Kristen and find her curiously looking over at me. See? I think she’s just hiding her true feelings.
Kristen
Bailey and I are meeting some of the girls by the bar for a drink before we head out for a bit. Nothing special, just a browse around the shops. We now all have jobs within the club and it’s owned businesses, so we have money to spend and I’m grateful for Simone bringing in her clothes from home but I need to go and treat myself to some of my own stuff. We have slightly different tastes. I prefer darker colours, leather jackets and boots. Fitting perfectly into the club life funnily so I’m excited to go and buy some goodies.
As I take a sip of my drink, Bailey leans over and whispers, “Bear is looking over again.”
I risk a glance over, noticing that Bear is, in fact looking over at us. “Girl, Bear is always looking over.” I can’t help but giggle but role my eyes at the same time.
I don’t know what it is about him, but he just won’t give in at all. I have sort of grown used to his flattering attention though. If I’m honest with myself, and nobody else, I think it would feel strange if I no longer received at least one chat up line a day from Bear. I’ve come to expect it now. Not that I’m going to tell him that! Or anyone else for that matter. I think it would give Bear false hope, to discover I expect him to flirt with me and also, I think that makes me look a little bad too and I don’t want that. Bear is an attractive guy. A very attractive guy actually but I’m just not interested right now. In either Bear or anyone else for that matter. Bailey is too busy greeting some of the other girls right now to notice my inner turmoil, but I can’t help but go back to Venoms dungeon every now and then. Usually it’s in my nightmares, a flash of the basement and his ugly fucking face leaning over me. Or I could be in the shower and I’d be taken back to those unappealing, non-private showers with Venoms men as they watched us one by one. It’s quite rare that I’d begin to think about it at a time of day such as this, but here I am. After spending six months locked down there, as a prisoner and a play thing, I can honestly say it’s done its damage. That I know for sure! And another thing I’m certain one is that I’m well and truly off men. For now at least anyway, but I have no idea when I’ll be wanting to dive back in again. Just the thought makes me a little nervous. There’s just no telling when I’ll be ready again. I think Simone did amazingly, being able to move on and get with Breaker, but then again like I keep reminding myself, Simone was kept captive for a matter of weeks, I was there for six months. I know because I was kidnapped by Venom and his men on Christmas day. Every person is different though and Breaker really helped her recover. I know
it’s not a competition, Simone suffered too but I was made to do some fucked up shit. Things I never want to have to think about again.
Bailey nudges me, bringing me out of my funk and I realise that I’ve been staring over at Bear all of this time. Shit. The rest of the girls join us, and I put on my smile and act like I wasn’t just taken to the dark side.
I just have to remember that one day I’ll return to my usual self and I won’t rush myself for anyone. Not even a gorgeous, tattooed biker. If anything, that’s making me even more cautious.
Chapter Two
Kristen
Living at the clubhouse does get a little weird. You’re constantly surrounded by people, but can be alone at the same time but I sort of like that. I get to have time by myself but I’m not deafened by the silence either. I tend to think of it as a win, win situation.
Take right now for example, I’m all alone at my table and enjoying my coffee. There’s so many people here, club members walking around and sorting out their daily tasks, their old ladies popping by for an hour or two and the club whores flaunting too much skin but none of them are bothering me. Sometimes I get the odd smile, which I appreciate but I get to enjoy my own space at the same time.
However, this now ends as I spy Bear entering the room. He’s just got back from his job, which I know he had because he told me as much before he had to leave. He takes a seat at my table with a huge, shit eating grin plastered on his face and looking far too happy for my liking.
I just sip on my coffee, looking at Bear as he sits at my table over the rim of the mug. “I was enjoying some time alone.” I say, placing the mug back on the table.
Bear flashes me a puzzled look, glancing around at the packed clubhouse. “In this place?” He laughs, obviously not experiencing the same as I do.
“What do you want?” I ask him, knowing he’s here for something.
“What makes you think I want something?” He flashes a mock look of shock.
“Oh come on Bear.” I roll my eyes. “You always want something, it’s who you are.”
And it’s true! Bear is always after something. Whether it’s a dance, a cheeky kiss or even hinting around a chance of a date. He never gets lucky though but I’m always impressed by his determination. He never gives in.
Bear playfully winks, scooting closer to me in his seat. “Ok.” Leaning his elbows on the table and staring right at me, he asks me his question. “I want a date.”
I can’t do anything but stare back at him wordlessly. I don’t know if I’m shocked or not or what I should do or say.
“Kristen.” Bear repeats. “I want to take you out on a date.”
“You want to take me on a date?” I ask him and Bear laughs, nodding in answer.
The thing is, Bear has never come out and actually asked me out on a date yet. This is the first. Sure he’s flirted and I’ve thought he was about to ask me on a date numerous times, but he hasn’t. Until now.
“Why is this so hard to believe?” Bear laughs.
I shrug it off, as if him asking me out is absolutely nothing. “It’s not.”
“Love yourself much Kristen?” He laughs loudly.
Laughing, I playfully slap his arm as I correct myself. “No, you just caught me off guard is all.”
Bear smiles across at me, waiting for me to answer but he’s going to be waiting a while if he wants a good answer.
“So?” He asks.
“Bear,” I begin and Bear begins to shake his head.
“Nope.” His head shakes from side to side. “You aren’t going to let me down.”
I can’t help but smirk at him. “I’m going to say no.”
Bear hangs his head in disappointment, but he still wears a smile. “Ah.” He moans, flashing me his sad, puppy dog act to try and gain my sympathy. I try not to laugh or even smile however it’s not long until I start giggling and I can’t seem to stop.
“I’m sorry.” I tell him, “but it’s still a no.”
Bear nods, deciding it’s time to give up and leaves me to it. Enjoying my own space at the table once more. I watch as he leaves, muttering something about taking a shower but as he walks pass some club brothers, I know one of them must have said something because Bear punches Mike in his arm.
I choke on my coffee, not able to hide my eruption of laughter as the warm liquid squirts up my nose.
By the time I’ve cleaned up my face, I’m joined by Simone and Bailey. It doesn’t take them long to bring up Bear, it seems that they saw his little show as well as some of the club members. I think all the men enjoy laughing at Bear, but the girls are always curious to my decision to not want to accept Bear.
“Why though?” Bailey asks, almost sounding as if she’s moaning like a child. “Just let him take you out for a meal or something.”
“That will give him false hope.” I point out. “I just want to be friends with him.”
“You don’t find him attractive?” Simone asks me.
I think about that for a minute or so while both of them sit and stare at me. “Sure, Bear’s good looking, but that doesn’t mean I’m about to get with him.”
Bailey laughs. “I didn’t say that.” She rolls her eyes. “Just go out and have a good time, that’s all I’m telling you.”
“Honestly girls.” I take a deep breath before I continue. “I’m off men for good, I think. Since Venom, I can’t to be that close to a man again. I don’t know when I’ll normal again.”
I look up to the ceiling as to try and stop my tears and it works, but the girls don’t make it easy. Their kind eyes and sorrowful looks almost tip me over the edge.
“Oh honey.” Bailey places her hand over mine. “You already normal, don’t think of yourself like that.”
“You don’t need men to make you happy.” Simone adds. “You got us.” She grins wide, actually making me laugh. “Everyone goes through things differently. So what if you can’t be close to a man this soon? It’s not the end of the world.”
“Let’s go and grab something to eat.” Bailey suggests. “Have a change of scenery.”
“Yeah I like the sound of getting away from the men for a bit.” Giggles Simone, “let’s asks the others.”
“I’m up for that.” I nod and my stomach rumbles in answer. The girls hear and laugh as we stand from our seats and go in search of some of the others to invite along with is.
I’m happy that I was truthful with them but most importantly, I’m relieved that they didn’t make a huge deal out of it. They support me though and I couldn’t love them more. The nightmare that we went through together had bonded us for life and I’m never let them go.
Chapter Three
Bear
I’ve just spent two or three hours being ripped by the guys. I did want to spend a good couple of hours working out and focusing but the guys thought it was better to give me a backtrack of insults and banter rather than the music I had picked out.
Escaping the gym, I make my way up the stairs and almost bump right into Simone.
“Oh! Hey Bear.” She grins. “Been in the gym?” She smirks.
“How did you guess?” I gestor to my sweaty self. “Looking for Breaker?”
Simone nods. “I am, is he down in the gym?”
“Yep.” I nod, stepping aside for her to pass by. “Doesn’t look like he’ll be budged from the boxing ring anytime soon though.”
Once my brother is caught in the boxing ring, it can be tough to get him back out again unless it’s emergency of course.
Simone just giggles, flicking her hair over her shoulder with a flirty look. “Believe me Bear, I can get your brother to do anything. Getting him out of the ring is nothing.”
“I believe you.” I can’t help but laugh. Honestly, Simone does have her little hands wrapped around my brother.
Simone says her goodbyes and goes to leave me, but then thinks different of it and spins back to face me. “Oh, I wanted to talk to you about Kristen.”
A long and la
boured breath falls from my mouth. “You’re not about to tell me to back off from her are you?” I ask her. “Because I don’t think I want to.”
Simone giggles again. “I’m not going to tell you to back off.” She shakes her hair.
“But you are going to tell me to leave her alone?”
“No!” She widens her eyes, getting a little annoyed it me because I keep butting in. “But I might have a little advice for you, regarding you wanting to take Kristen out.”
“I’m listening.”
Simone flashes me a smirk and gently begins to explain. “Look, Kristen has been through a lot and it’s why she’s so stand-offish with you.”
“I wouldn’t say she’s stand-offish with me.” I argue with her.
Simone crosses her arms, giving me a ‘don’t give me attitude’ look. “Really? Because all I and anyone else see’s, is you on your knees, begging for attention while Kristen laughs and walks away. As funny as it looks though, I think you should give in and leave Kristen to get on with recovering.”
That last word strikes me. “Recovering?”
“Well, yeah.” Simone shrugs. “You need to be careful with her Bear. Take it easy and stop creeping all over her.”
“I don’t creep!” I argue again and Simone just laughs.
“Bear, every time you see Kristen you’ve melted on the floor and are creeping all over her, craving her attention.”
I want to argue back but I feel like it’s a waste of time. Whatever I say Simone will twist around. I don’t creep though, that’s fucking wrong. “I don’t creep.”
Simone holds up her hands. “I’ll take back the creeping part if it really means that much to you.” She smiles. “Look, Kristen’s been through a lot of shit. You don’t realise what terrible things she was put through while she was with Venom, she hasn’t even told me and the rest of the girls everything that happened. It was awful Bear and I was only there a teeny part of what Kristen and some of the others had suffered. She’s off men for good and it’s why she’ll never accept anything you offer her. Kristen needs to be alone now, and those are her words. She said she can’t be close to a man right now, even in a friendly way she can find it hard and my hear breaks for her.”
